Athina, City Centre

The original name of the Greek capital, is as pronounced by Greeks and Arabs alike; Athina, in honor of the ancient goddess Athena that offered the sacred source of life to the people, the olive tree. Enjoy, as you stroll through the bustling streets of Athens City Center, where you are immediately transported back in time to the birthplace of Western civilization. The city is steeped in rich history, from the towering columns of the Parthenon to the ancient ruins of the Agora. The streets are lined with charming cafes, artisanal shops, and beautiful architecture that pay homage to the city's past while embracing its vibrant present.

The highlight of Athens City Center is undoubtedly the Acropolis, the imposing hilltop citadel that dominates the skyline. Yunanni, a history lover, has been a regular visitor at the Acropolis since she was 15 years old. The Acropolis is home to several ancient monuments,  including the iconic Parthenon, which stands as a testament to the architectural and artistic prowess of the ancient Greeks and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, a concert hall build more than 2,000 years ago and still in operation today . As you explore the site, you'll be awe-struck by the sheer scale and beauty of these historic structures.

If you visit Athens during the August full moon, you are up for a pleasant surprise. All the archaeological sites of the country are open to the visitors to enjoy the night under the moonlight. Don’t miss it.

As you walk around the Acropolis area, you come across to one of the most charming neighborhoods in the city center. Plaka, a historic area that has preserved its traditional architecture and atmosphere. Here, you can wander through ancient streets, visit small museums and galleries, and enjoy a cup of coffee or a glass of wine at a cozy taverna.

While Athens is certainly known for its ancient history, the city is also a vibrant and modern destination that offers a unique blend of old and new. As you explore through the city's bustling neighborhoods, you'll encounter lively squares, trendy cafes, and stylish boutiques that reflect Athens' contemporary spirit. The chic neighborhood of Kolonaki is also particularly worth visiting, with its charming streets lined with upscale shops and trendy restaurants. In the heart of Athens, you'll find Ermou Street, a bustling pedestrian shopping area that is a shopper's paradise, offering everything from high-end fashion to handmade crafts.

Whether you're visiting the ancient ruins or soaking up the city's modern vibe, Athens City Center is a destination that will capture your heart and imagination.
